Bodies asked to name writers, artistes for receiving stipends

PESHAWAR: The sub-committees on the “Promotion of Cultural Community & Support Deserving Writers” have been asked to finalise the names of artistes, poets and writers to extend them financial help and stipends as soon as possible.
Chairing a meeting of the sub-committees on Wednesday, Secretary Tourism and Culture Muhammad Azam Khan said that the members should not waste time in finalising the names of deserving artistes and literary figures, who are being declared the “Living Human Treasure” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the step would prove a milestone in helping the artistes and writers.“We must acknowledge the services of artistes and writers for the welfare and development of society and nation,” the secretary said.
He said the members of the committees should not commit any discrimination on the basis of creed, caste and colour and select the deserving artistes and writers in a transparent manner.
The members of the central committee In-charge Creative Wing Dr Ali Jan, Abaseen Yousafzai, Dr Salahuddin, Samar Minallah, Jehanzeb Malik Arbab Fazal Rauf, Najibullah Anjum, Ihtisham Toru, Khadim Hussain, Laiq Zada Laiq, Prof Dr Tayyaba Aziz, Prof Dr Salam Shaheen, Prof Israrullah and Syed Gul Kalla Shah and Farooq Firaq Director Culture Abdul Basit will be the convener of the central committee.
The members of sub-committees on performing art, musical instruments, visual art and literature include: Aziz Ijaz, Jehanzeb Sohail, Prof Khamis, Bushra Farrukh, Fayyaz Kheshgi, music director Khalid Malik Haider, Shaukat Ali, Ustad Nazar Gul, Ustad Walayat Khan, Prof Dr Ghulam Shabbier, Nisar Mehmood, Sher Alam Shinwari, Arbab Sardar, Effat Bibi, Naeem Safi, , Sajid Ali, Abdur Rehman and Ajab Gul, Muhammad Ibrahim Zia, Prof Dr Humayun Huma, Farooq Jan Babar, Zubair Torwali, Inayatur Rehman and Sameena Qadir.
Deputy Director Culture Ajmal Khan will be the convener of all sub-committees.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Secretary Muhammad Tariq, Deputy Secretary Adil Safi and Director Culture Abdul Basit,
It was an introductory meeting about the “Living Human Treasure”, an innovative scheme evolved by the government in which stipends will be given to artistes and literary figures.
Earlier, the members of the sub-committees were briefed about the process and nomination of deserving artistes.
In the first phase, incentives/stipends of Rs30,000 will be given to the deserving artistes and writers.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan has already accepted the invitation to attend the ceremony of awarding stipends to the artistes.
