Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr. Farrukh Javed has said that green revolution, which has started from Potohar region, will soon reach Bahawalpur and Cholistan.
Addressing a seminar regarding the increase in wheat production after inaugurating two days “Kissan Mela” on Wednesday, the minister said the government wants to benefit the farmer with latest researches and techniques in agriculture sector. Agricultural scientists will succeed when their research will reach the farmers. He said we are self-sufficient in wheat and our next target is to maximise the per acre production of small farmers. “Kissan Package” is the first step in helping our farmers in difficulty. We are planning to introduce many such programmes for farming community, he added. The chief minister Punjab’s vision is farmer friendly and the Punjab government shapes its policies according to farmer’s feedback.
The minister for agriculture in his address said the cost of dap urea has decreased up to 700 rupees through Kissan Package. He said it is first time in the history that any government has announced a package of 341 billion for farmers. He said the distribution of support amount for farmer is continuing in a very transparent manner. He said that through these initiatives, the government will be able to achieve its target of enhanced wheat production.
Dr. Abid Mahmood, Director General (Research), said the Punjab has a share of 76 percent in country’s total wheat production. He said farmers will have to change their techniques with the changing needs of climate. Pakistan is ranked 8th in wheat production in the world.
