The office of Gawahi TV, a web television channel of the Christian community, situated in Akhtar Colony was reportedly burnt during a fire that broke out during the wee hours of November 23, informed a source in the community on condition of anonymity.
While speaking to The News, an employee of the TV channel, who also chose not to disclose their name, claimed the incident was an act of arson as the main door locks were found to be broken and traces of flammable chemicals could also be seen. A large number of office equipment including computers, hard drives, memory cards, along with religious material, were stated to either be damaged or missing.
On question of suspicion or a threat prior to the incident, the source claimed that nobody at the work place had reported to have received any threats. He also mentioned that the office had suffered heavy losses in a robbery in the past.
While the concerned party plans to lodge an FIR over the incident today, police and fire department officials were initially ruling out any possibility of arson.
As reports circulated on the social media, Senator Saeed Ghani of the Pakistan People’s Party and Raheela Qazi, daughter of late Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed, also took to Twitter to condemn the incident.
