Tumbler Ridge tragedy: Nine killed, 25 injured after school shooting in British Columbia
The shooting happened in Tumbler Ridge, which is located around 1,200km (750 miles) north of Vancouver being one of the largest cities in the province
A devastating shooting occurred at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in north-eastern British Columbia, Canada. Reports indicate that at least nine are dead, including the suspected shooter. Another two people were found dead at a separate location, which police believe is connected to the incident.
According to police officials, an active shooter was at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday local time, responding officers found nine dead and dozens injured.
In line with a statement from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), another person died while being transported to hospital. The suspected shooter was also found deceased with “what appears to be a self-inflicted injury.”
On the other hand, two victims have been airlifted to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The police said in a statement that two additional people were found dead at a residence believed to be connected to the incident.
Meanwhile, officers are searching additional homes and properties to determine whether more individuals may have been injured in today’s tragedy.
A notice on the website says, “Due to the tragic events that unfolded in the community of Tumblr Ridge today, Tumblr Ridge Secondary School and Tumblr Ridge Elementary School will be closed for the rest of the week. “
An investigation is ongoing to identify a secondary location believed to be connected to the incident. Authorities are searching for more potential victims and conducting further sweeps of additional homes and properties to determine if there were further injuries resulting from today's events. According to Reuters, Mark Carney has suspended his planned trip to Germany following the school shooting in British Columbia.
