Russia-Ukraine peace efforts: Trump envoys to discuss new US proposals with Kyiv, Europe
Officials from Ukraine, Europe and the US are meeting in Miami to discuss ways to resolve Russia-Ukraine conflict
President Donald Trump’s envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff will meet Ukrainian and European officials on Friday to discuss “new peace ideas” to end Russia-Ukraine conflict ongoing for more than four years,
The confirmation of the meeting came from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday. "The Ukrainian negotiating team is due to meet Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in the US tomorrow.”
"The meeting is expected to last two days. We are also counting on a European team to join our negotiating group,” he said.
The attendees include Zelenskyy's chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanov, and other top officials, including Rustem Umerov, Sergiy Kyslytsya and David Arakhamia.
According to Axios, the two-day talks will explore breaking the diplomatic deadlock, specifically through a potential partial ceasefire targeting attacks on energy infrastructure and grain shipments.
US presidential envoys may travel to Moscow later this month for additional discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Trump administration is pushing for a diplomatic breakthrough ahead of the US midterm elections and the beginning of harsh winter weather in Ukraine as per the report.
Speaking about the nature of talks, one source told AFP that "They will discuss new ideas and proposals that American negotiators began developing with the Russians and Ukrainians during their recent visit to the region.”
However, Russia believed that the resolution of conflict with Ukraine demands a comprehensive approach.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that any resolution to the conflict in Ukraine must be comprehensive, dismissing piecemeal measures as inadequate.
No peaceful settlement of the Ukraine conflict is in sight for the time being, he lamented, "No such thing is in sight at this point."
"Let's put it this way: a temporary halt or a freeze won't help either," Peskov added.
