Rights for the disabled

The Punjab government’s initiative to increase the employment quota from two percent to three percent in government departments and district governments in Punjab is a landmark decision in the struggle to reframe the needs and concerns of persons with disabilities (PWDs). It is a welcomed step in the country because persons with disabilities require societal protection and support to compensate for their inabilities.
Moreover, the Punjab government has also taken many other initiatives that include no age limitation for persons with disabilities to get admission to educational institutions; waiving off of tuition fee, hostel fee and other charges for physically challenged. All these and other initiatives highlight the government’s firm resolve to treat them as equal citizens.
