LAHORE
The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notice to the federal government on petition against cancellation of holiday on Iqbal Day and fixed it for preliminary hearing before a bench.
Judge sought reply from the federal government within three weeks. A local lawyer Farhad Ali Shah filed the petition submitting that the interior ministry cancelled holiday on Iqbal Day through a notification. He said that the ministry did not give any reason behind cancellation of this holiday and the whole nation was worried over it.
He said that to celebrate the Iqbal Day was the right of every Pakistani and the government could not stop it through a notification. He submitted that for future generation, we have to follow the teachings of Allama Iqbal, as the nations who forgive their national heroes can never make progress. He requested to declare the notification for cancellation of the holiday illegal and unconstitutional and restore the holiday on Iqbal Day.
