Two men involved in a fraud of stamping traffic challans illegally were caught in the Mauripur area on Thursday.
The suspects, whose identities were not released immediately, used to approach people arriving at the National Bank of Pakistan’s branch in the area to submit the challan fee. They would then advise the motorists not to go to the bank and to get their tickets stamped by them instead for an amount much less than the challan fee.
The spokesman for the Traffic Police said Sub Inspector Riaz of the Quaid-e-Azam Truck Stand Traffic Section was tipped off about this group of forgers operating in his jurisdiction.
Acting on the information, traffic officials conducted a raid and arrested the suspects, who were found in possession of several NBP stamps.
They were said to have been carrying out this illegal activity for the last several months.
After completing the legal formalities, traffic police officials handed them over to the Mauripur police station for further legal action.
