LAHORE
The city district government Sunday raided Metro Store in Model Town area and arrested its floor manager and imposed Rs 20,000 fine for selling rotten and below standard vegetables and fruits.
The action was taken during a drive launched against big and multi-national stores who are not selling edibles including vegetables and fruits on the rates issued by CDGL, said DCO Usman while talking to The News.
He said he received several complaints that the Metro Store is selling vegetables and fruits on very exorbitant rates while it has made separate counters in their stores where rotten and substandard vegetables and fruits are being sold in the name of DCO rates. Some days back, CDGL held meetings with the managements of big and multi-national stores and directed them to make special counters at their outlets where they will sell fruits, vegetables, pulses, flour and several other items on the rates issued by the CDGL. However, ironically, majority of stores who made these counters were selling rotten and substandard vegetables, fruits and very low quality pulses, flour and other grocery items.
