World Egg Day celebrated at PMAS-AAUR

Pir Mehr Ali Shah-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) organised a seminar on ‘Importance of Eggs for Human Health’ to celebrate the World Egg Day here on Thursday, with an aim to create public awareness about the nutritional value and the importance of eggs for human health.
The seminar was organised by Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (FV&AS) in collaboration with Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) AND SB Poultry Pvt Limited. On the occasion PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad was the chief guest. Khalid Saleem Malik, chairman of Pakistan Poultry Association, Dr. M. Aslam, chief executive of Islamabad Poultry Association, Dr. Asif Mehboob GM SB Poultry, Dr. Safdar Ali, Dean FV&AS, also addressed the participants of the seminar.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad said eggs have a vital role to play in feeding people around the world, in both developed and developing countries. The eggs have excellent and affordable source of high quality protein, with the potential to feed the world, he added. He further said that the University is forming close ties with the poultry industry and could resolve challenges and problems through research. He assured that the university could provide all-out technical support and services to farmers for the advancement of the poultry sector.
Furthermore chief executive of Islamabad Poultry announced 10 scholarships for the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, PMAS- Arid Agriculture University, and committed collaboration in R&D with university. Dean of the Faculty also enlightened the importance of eggs in the Human Nutrition in reference to World Eggs Days and ensured the gathering to achieved the cause of highly balanced nutrition provision the general masses and struggles would be by contribution of PMAS- Arid Agriculture University academia and researchers in future.
Earlier, in connection with World Egg Day, a walk and egg cooking competition were also held at University. In which large number of students and faculty members were participated. In egg cooking competition, Hajra Qadir got first position, while Moheen Kanwal and Uzaifa Shahid got second and third positions, respectively.
The participants were also gifted with the eggs on the occasion along with the details of different recipes.
Speakers stressed that efforts should be made to make people aware of the above facts to increase egg consumption to ensure the good health of people because only a healthy generation can take a country to the pinnacle of progress and prosperity.
