Rawalpindi : Islamabad Electric Supply Company’s (Iesco) tall claims regarding provision of interrupted power supply during Ramazan proved wrong because consumers are continuously facing long power breakdowns, low voltages and tripping.

The residents of Adiala Sub Division are not only spending sleepless nights but doing ‘sehri’ in darkness because of prolonged power breakdowns in guise of different lame excuses of maintenance work, major fault in supply lines, fault in grid station and shutdown schedule on daily basis. On Saturday night, the electricity was once against disrupted due to windstorm, and it was restored in some areas in the morning but majority of localities of Adiala Sub Division remained without electricity till the filing of this report here on Sunday.

In the state of tension, the angry mob of consumers went to Adiala Sub Division Inquiry Office but all staff ran away on the occasion. It was the routine matter as consumers have been facing difficulties on permanent basis but higher officials of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) are not addressing the situation.

Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Adiala Abdul Hameed told ‘The News’ that power supply in majority of localities was affected due to heavy rainfall and windstorm. “The Iesco staff is continuously working to find out fault in supply lines to restore electricity in all areas,” he said. He also said that Iesco observes power shutdowns to continue maintenance work on alternative days. “We are trying to provide smooth power supply in all areas during Ramazan,” he assured. On Saturday night, the power remained off from 11:40 p.m. (Saturday night) to 10:10 a.m. on Sunday.

The residents of Munawar Colony, Kalyal, Al-Mumtaz Colony, Dhoke Juma, Sher Zaman Colony, Dhama Syedan, Ali Town, Gulshanabad, Madina Town, Gorakh Pure, Talhi Mohri, Dehri Hasanabad, Bakra Mandi, Dhamial, Dhoke Kalhoor, Mubarak Lane, Hill View Lane, Morgah, Defense Road, Askari-7, Askari-14, Dhok Raja, Janjua Town, Soan Camp and several other localities have been affected by prolonged power breakdowns.
