PESHAWAR: The police on Saturday claimed to have killed a hired assassin during a search and strike operation in Katlang area of Mardan district.

A press release said that DPO Sajjad Khan led the operation in the morning in Katlang area,

which connects Mardan district to Elum area of Buner.

“Because Elum borders our jurisdiction of Mardan, we got a tip-off that the armed outlaws have sneaked into Mardan. I led a contingent to the area,” Sajjad Khan added.

He said that as the police party reached the area, they were fired upon, prompting the police to retaliate and the exchange of fire continued for some time. He said one of the outlaws was killed in the shoot-out and hand grenade and Kalashnikov were recovered from him.

The slain was identified as Mohammad Yasir, resident of Toru village in Mardan and wanted in several cases including firing on police rider party in which constable Tariq had been martyred in Hoti Police Station limits and another case of Choora Police Station.
