NAB chief briefed on mega corruption cases

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal was briefed on cases pertaining to money-laundering matters and other high profile cases during a visit to the office of the regional bureau here on Thursday.

According to a press release, the briefing was also attended by the deputy prosecutor general accountability and other senior officers. During his visit, the NAB chief particularly reviewed the performance of the Prosecution Wing of NAB Lahore and advised it to continue efforts for it so that references in mega corruption scandalsmay be pursued as per law and corrupt elements may be brought to justice.

The NAB chairman stated that the bureau had more than 70pc conviction rate in different courts which highlighted diligent efforts of prosecution teams of the bureau. He maintained that NAB believed in discharging its constitutional duties in accordance with the law. The NAB is a premier and dignified institution which is working for elimination of corruption from country, whereas its every initiative is purely based on merit and after acquisition of solid evidences.

He said that NAB actions against corrupt elements were admired by different prestigious organisations. The NAB chairman also issued instructions for bringing all under-investigation mega corruption scandals to their logical end without causing any delay and to file evidence-based references in accountability courts.
