Afforestation project restored

Islamabad: The 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project, which was suspended due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus in the country, has been restored with the approval of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

This was disclosed by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Muhammad Amin Aslam while addressing to news briefing along with National Disaster Risk Management Fund CEO Lieutenant General (r) Nadeem Ahmed here.

Amin Aslam said 65,000 workers, who were associated with Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project, would resume work on emergency basis.

He said Pakistan faced the climate change and weak economy challenges due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Amin Aslam said the government was focusing its attention on three elements, including prevention, mitigation, and recovery under prevailing coronavirus situation.

On the occasion, Lieutenant General (r) Nadeem Ahmed said Rs9.5 billion funds provided by the World Bank would be spent on the recovery of economy and up-scaling of ongoing climate change projects affected by coronavirus outbreak.
