This refers to the editorial, 'Corona relief force' (April 2). We are very fond of creating new organizations instead of revamping the existing ones. As rightly pointed out in the editorial, we have a large number of such well-established organizations with proper infrastructure that are helping the poor. It would have been more appropriate to augment them instead of creating the 'tiger force'. By the time this force becomes effective, the severity of the coronavirus might have minimized.
Second, who will provide them transport to carry ration to the poor? People need immediate relief at their doorstep. The best solution is to prepare data through NADRA of daily wagers and poor and pay them minimum Rs30,000 per month by dispensing with schemes like BISP, Ehsas programme, Zakat Fund. Make permanent arrangements instead looking for short-term solutions.
