Govt urged to utilise skills of pharmacists
HARIPUR: The provincial government must devise a comprehensive plan to utilise the professional expertise of young qualified pharmacists in the prevailing situation to combat corona virus, said Dr Inamullah, General Secretary Young Pharmacists Community (YPC) KP on Saturday.
Talking to reporters here, he said that the government was already facing the shortage of healthcare facilities and professionals and the available staff in the public sector was not sufficient to meet the requirement of a large population especially in the remote areas.
But, he said, the outbreak of corona pandemic and shortage of professionally trained care providers has thrown new challenges before the policy makers and government.
He said that the provincial health department was although appeared to be serious about combating coronavirus pandemic with available resources, a sustainable policy for meeting the existing and future health challenges was needed to be devised.
The government, he said, had decided to launch locum scheme to recruit different health care professionals, which was a laudable step but utilising the knowledge, skills and expertise of
pharmacists should be considered practically instead of adjusting few pharmacists.
He claimed that being medicine experts, the qualified pharmacists enjoyed better capacity of playing important role parallel to other health care professionals.
