MIRPURKHAS: As many as 772 candidates have filed nomination papers for different seats of local government elections in the Mirpurkhas district. Polls would be conducted for the district council, two municipal and six town committees and 46 union councils on November 19 under the second phase of LG elections in Sindh.
According to details provided by district election commissioner, 340 candidates have filed nomination papers for general councilor, 311 for town committees and 121 for chairman and vice chairman of different local government institutes, including candidates of PPP, PML-N, PML- F, PTI, JI, JUI, MQM, other political parties as well as independent candidates.
Municipal committee Mirpurkhas, consisting of 47 wards, has 132,948 registered voters, among them 72,408 male and 60,540 female voters. As many as 94 polling stations and 290 polling booths would be set up for the elections in MC.
The other municipal committee of the district is Shujaabad with 46 wards and 61,684 registered voters and 70 polling stations and 194 polling booths would be set up for the voting.. A total of 74 polling stations and 214 polling booths would be set up for the voting. As many as 326,167 voters would use their right of franchise in 46 union councils of the district where 301 polling stations and 848 polling booths would be set up to facilitate them.
