Fehmida, Arif, Taimoor, Aulakh condole Azam Khan’s death
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr Fehmida Mirza and President Pakistan Olympic Association (IPC) expressed condolences on the sad demise of Azam Khan who died of neutral death in London Saturday.
Azam Khan won British Open four times (1959-62). He was instrumental to raise the flag of Pakistan. The Minister prayed Almighty Allah to grant his soul in eternal peace. Lt Gen (retd) Syed Arif Hasan, President, POA and the entire Olympic family was also deeply grieved on the demise of Azam Khan.
“May Allah Kareem in His Infinite mercy shower His blessings and grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. He will always be remembered for his outstanding contribution to squash sport in Pakistan,” POA president said in his message.
Our Lahore correspondent adds: Punjab Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti and Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh have condoled the demise of squash legend Azam Khan, who breathed his last in United Kingdom due to fatal coronavirus on Saturday.
Punjab Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti said Azam Khan was one of the greatest squash players. He won the British Open four times between 1959 and 1962. He was the younger brother of squash legend Hashim Khan, who won the British Open seven times between 1951 and 1958, and an uncle of squash great Jahangir Khan.
In a joint condolence message on Sunday, Punjab Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti and Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh conveyed their heartfelt sympathies to the members of the bereaved family and prayed to Allah Almighty to grant them courage to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity.
