Police Emergency Response and Crisis Management Centre set up at SSU Headquarters
A Police Emergency Response and Crisis Management Centre (PER&CMC) has been established at the SSU Headquarters, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Maqsood Memon, chief of the Sindh Police Security Division, on Tuesday.
Talking to The News, he said that the Security Division had established the centre at the SSU Headquarters for coordination among the Karachi police to extend maximum help to the masses, provide guidance and create awareness.
In addition, seven units of the Security and Emergency Response Division have spared their 3,400 personnel to assist the city police. The personnel of the Security and Emergency Response Division are being deployed in seven districts of Karachi to respond to calls to be received at the PER&CMC and to continue supplies of edible items and drugs/medical aids/ equipment. An ambulance is kept ready with staff to help with medical protective gear 24/7.
DIG Memon said that the location of deployed vehicles in seven districts are: two at the DIG East office, two at the SP Korangi office, two at the SP Malir office, two at the DIG South Office, two at the SP City office, two at the DIG West and two at the SP Central office.
He added that the PER&CMC would ensure coordination of the Karachi Police and all other emergency and utility departments with public authorities and stakeholders of the civil society. The objective is to extend maximum help, provide guidance and create mass awareness in the current situation of emergency and make critical information quickly accessible.
DIG Memon added that the PER&CMC was linked with the office of the Karachi commissioner, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, and the IGP Operations Room for deployments coordination. A DSP in each shift will supervise the PER&CMC.
The Madadgar 15 Call Centre is also linked with the Command Centre for timely response and coordination with stakeholders for protective actions for life safety, i.e. medical, firefighting, rescue, warning, notifications, and communications, links to emergency planning information.
Daily reports about the overall situation, police deployments plans and relevant information with concerned officials and authorities will be shared. It will keep track of all resources and manage deployments as per requirements.
