WSSP launches disinfection operation in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) on Sunday launched a city-wide disinfection operation in all the four zones of Peshawar. Disinfection teams descended upon the major roads, and streets to disinfect them with a chlorine-mixed solution.
The company trained teams of sanitation workers in all the four zones will disinfect the roads, markets and streets to contain the pandemic during the operation. The WSSP also decided to procure extra-machinery in a couple of days and deploy more teams to play its due role to stop the spread of Covid-19. The company mini-bowsers and other vehicles were deployed for the purpose as well.
The University Road, Warsak Road, Nasir Bagh Road, Ring Road, Doranpur, Bashirabad and other localities were sprayed with the chlorine-mixed solution. Besides, Canal Town was disinfected twice on Sunday. The process was expected to continue until late at night.
The government and other related departments were contacted to prepare a plan for proper and safe disposal of waste being generated from quarantine centres. As a precautionary measure, the sanitation company had started dumping the waste at a separate place in its dumping site in Shamshatu. The waste was being fumigated and then covered with lime.
The company handed over personal protection equipment to its sanitary workers and directed the municipal inspectors to ensure workers follow the precautionary measures.
Chief Executive Officer Syed Zafar Ali Shah and General Manager Operation Riaz Ahmad Khan were monitoring the disinfection operation. Besides, the zonal managers were tasked to ensure each and every road and markets were covered during the operation.
The chief executive officer warned the workers and municipal inspectors against any negligence. The chief executive officers urged the workers to implement the precautionary measures for their safety and that of the family. He also urged the masses to stay home to protect themselves from the virus.
