Ayan Ali still not indicted

RAWALPINDI: Supermodel Ayyan Ali appeared before a Special Customs Court for the 16th time in the currency smuggling case on Tuesday. However, her indictment has been deferred once again. Special Customs Court (SCC) Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed heard the case. Customs authorities told the court that the challan against the accused could not be presented because the matter was sub judice in the high court. A copy of the high court’s decision has not been received yet, the Customs authorities said.
Ayyan Ali’s counsel Latif Khosa told the court that the court gave a verdict in his client’s favour and the state was also a respondent in the case. Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed adjourned the indictment of the accused till a copy of the high court’s order was received. The case hearing was adjourned till September 28. Ayyan Ali was detained at the Islamabad airport on March 14 as she waited in the VIP Lounge before her Dubai flight. Pakistani law bars any passenger from carrying more than $10,000 and investigators say they found $506,800 tucked into her luggage.
