What seemed just a dream yesterday is an accomplished fact now: thanks to 50th Anniversary of the Indo-Pak war in which the enemy got a humiliating defeat in the air, sea and field. "We are again united, but now we will never falter in our determination to achieve social and economic goal and stability even if we have to say goodbye to such a divisive politics," say citizens.
City olds say we have mentally realised the need for unity. We had set an example of ideal unity in September 1965 when invaded by a neighbouring country, but soon we indulged in self-interest and forgot the advice of the founder of Pakistan that "united we stand, divided we fall."
There's no denying the fact the common man complains of food price hike and unemployment, but he insists he's more conscious that there is an outside attempt to destabilise his motherland.
Elders rightly assert we didn't seriously pay attention to address the problem of national cohesion over the years although we know the real strength of any nation lies in unity.
One of our mistakes was going away from Islamic teachings and morale of the life-long struggle of Mohammad Ali Jinnah -- the man who earned the "father of the nation" title for his uncompromising commitment to the cause of the enslaved and exploited masses.
"We had long needed to learn from our mistakes and act upon the advice of the architect of Pakistan in the light of the Quran and the motto of unity and discipline; our armed forces followed the motto and that's the secret of their success against the enemy," say the city olds.
The somewhat economically frustrated common man feels happy over the performance of his homeland's defenders and talks about their valour, vigilance and honour, and selfless dedication of their lives to protection of borders and ensuring of people's safety all the time.
