Cotton arrivals down 20 percent
KARACHI: Cotton arrivals in the ginning factories of Pakistan declined 20 percent by January 31, 2020. According to data released by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) on Monday, cotton arrivals were recorded at 8.48 million bales against last year’s arrivals of 10.60 million bales by the same period.
Sales to exporters went down 41.86 percent to 58,666 bales, compared to 100,900 bales sold to exporters last year. Sales to spinners went down 15 percent to 7.63 million bales, compared with 9.01 million bales sold to mills in the corresponding period last year.
During the fortnight (January 16-31), 149,078 bales arrived in factories, whereas in the same period last year 148,821 bales arrived in factories.
Cotton arrivals from Sindh declined 16.21 percent to 3.47 million bales, compared to last year’s arrival of 4.14 million bales. Cotton arrivals from Punjab dropped 22.4 percent to 5.01 million bales compared with last year’s 6.46 million bales.
So far, 796,375 bales remain unsold with ginners, compared with last year’s unsold stocks of 1.48 million bales. Sanghar district led cotton production with 1.13 million bales followed by Rahimyar Khan with 1.09 million bales.
