PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have launched Victim Support Services to take care of child and woman victims of violence.
The services are expected to help the police deal with the victims in a dedicated and specialised manner. Initially, the services will be introduced in five districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Abbottabad and Swat. These will be expanded to the rest of the province later. The services will be provided by women police officers who have been trained in the sensitive handling of vulnerable victims, with a special emphasis on women and children. The victim support officers trained by the Justice System Support Programme are expected to improve police response to crimes against vulnerable persons, especially children and women.
KP Inspector General of Police Sanaullah Abbasi on Friday awarded certificates at the Central Police Officer to the officers who had completed their training. Senior police officers, including and the representatives of the Justice System Support Programme funded by the Department For International Department attended the function.
The KP Police will recruit 29 new Victim Support Officers and the police chief directed his staff to expedite the process. The IGP committed to putting a special focus on the capacity building of the investigators dealing with the crimes against children and women.
