KMDC annual sports festival begins

KARACHI: The annual sports festival of the Karachi Medical & Dental College (KMDC) was inaugurated by Olympian Islahuddin Siddiqui, a former Pakistan hockey captain, in a colourful ceremony at their campus, located in North Nazimabad, on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Islahuddin, one of the most successful hockey captains of the country, advised the students of the KMDC to take to the national sport while urging the management to form a hockey team in their folds.

He suggested to the doctors and dental surgeons of tomorrow to turn towards sports in general and hockey in particular for maintaining their own health for carrying out their pursuits for serving the community.

Islahuddin, who is famously remembered for his dashes to block the penalty corners fired by the opponents, invited the KMDC students to visit the hockey academy for improving their skills.

KMDC Principal Prof Dr Syed Mahmood Haider expressed his gratitude to the chief guest for his generous offer and promised total support from the college management in facilitating the participation of their students in hockey activities.

Prof Dr Nasir Ali Khan, the organizer of the KMDC Sports Festival 2020, presented the vote of thanks in the inauguration ceremony. The ceremony was also attended by the faculty members, students’ parents and people from other medical institutions.

The gymnasium was buzzing with excitement as the various events got underway. The students will be in action in as many as 13 disciplines with competitions to be organised in cricket, football, throwball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, snooker, futsal and wrestling.
