‘Wapda working to build new dams, hydel power stations’

LAHORE: Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has been making effort to build new dams and hydel power stations to meet growing need of cheaper electricity and water for more than 200 million citizens of the country.

Pakistan is considered 2nd country in the world to build the largest hydel generation projects in the year 2018. Wapda completed construction of 4th Tarbela Hydel Project, Neelum Jhelum Hydel Power Project Muzaffarabad and Kachhi Canal Water Project and started construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam National Project. The workers have demonstrated an exemplary performance in the service of Wapda.

Wapda would continue to resolve their just demands presented by All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA. These views were expressed by Brig (Retd) Shoaib Taqi, General Manager (HR) Wapda and Muhammad Ikram Khan, member (Finance) Wapda while addressing the National Conference of Wapda workers held on Monday at Bakhtiar Labour Hall Lahore under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers union CBA.

On this occasion, veteran trade union leader Khurshid Ahmad, general secretary of the union, welcoming the Wapda workers who participated from all over the country commended their services and declared that Wapda workers had been playing an exemplary role in the services of nation. He demanded resolution of the pending demands of Wapda workers at the earliest.

He demanded from the prime minister to take urgent measures to check menace of rising price-hike and aggravating unemployment to ease the suffering of the common citizen and demanded to provide adequate financial resources to Wapda to get completed the national project of hydel generation and water dams to fulfill the national expectations of provisions of growing basic need of cheaper electricity and water at the earliest.

GCU: A delegation of students and teachers from Frontier Corps Public School, Miranshah, North Waziristan visited the Government College University (GCU) on a study tour here on Monday.

The delegation visited various academic departments of GCU and also met with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi.

The VC told the delegation that they were all Pakistanis and they had to collectively work for its development. He expressed his desire to double the number of special quota seats for the students of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Prof Zaidi told the students that GCU had produced countless legendary personalities, including Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Nobel Prize winners Dr Abdus Salam and Dr Hargobind Khorana.

He emphasised on students of North Waziristan the importance of higher education and training before returning to the home region for service. The students also visited library and Naqoosh Museum.

The last date of submission of admission forms for regular and late college candidates of the LLB (3 Years) Part-I, II & III Annual Examination 2020 is 17-3-20, 18-3-20 and 19-3-20 with single fee and 24-3-20, 25-3-20 and 26-3-20 with double fee, respectively.
