Police arrested eight suspected drug dealers in Manghopir and Surjani Town on Wednesday and seized 110 kilogrammes of hashish.
SSP West Azfar Mahesar said these criminals were operating in the Central district and the outskirts of the West district.
The Manghopir SHO and his team were snap-checking vehicles near Hamdard Morr, which connects the highway with Balochistan, when they signalled some suspicious men travelling in a van to stop.
However, the occupants of the van opened fire on the police. After a brief shootout, the police arrested a man identified as Mohammed Jamil while his two associates Mohammad Imran and Khurram alias Raziq managed to escape.
While inspecting the van, police removed its hood and found 104 kilogrammes of hashish concealed in the pockets of its chassis.
The drug peddlers were smuggling the hashish to Karachi.
The SSP said acting on the information disclosed by the arrested smuggler during interrogation, the Manghopir SHO conducted another raid in the area and after an encounter arrested Irfan alias Qarabu. The police found four kilogrammes of hashish at his hideout.
Surjani raids
Police raided two drug dens in Surjani Town and arrested suspected drug peddlers Faisal alias Munna Qureshi and Nafees. In the raids, they found 11 kilogrammes of hashish and a motorcycle stolen in New Karachi.
The SSP said Faisal was an absconder who had escaped from police custody a few months during treatment at the AO Clinic in connivance with the cops deployed there.
He was also wanted by the police in over 20 other criminal cases and operating a major gang of drug dealers in the area.
On Faisal and Nafees’ disclosures, the police conducted another raid in Surjani Town and arrested Kashif alias Chingari and Khurram Qureshi.
They were found in possession of four kilogrammes of hashish. The police said Khurram was Faisal’s brother.
Saeedabad raid
The SSP said the police had conducted a raid in Saeedabad and arrested notorious heroin smugglers Sajid Ali and Wajid Ali. The two men were found in possession of two TT pistols, a revolver and a Kalashnikov.
