People urged to donate eyes to blinds
Rawalpindi : Chairman of Eye Donation Campaign, Dr. Mazhar Qayyum has called upon people to get united at one platform in order to make effort for restoring eye sight of hundreds of blind people in Pakistan.
He was speaking at a gathering at Jamia Hanfia Usmania Mosque arranged by Qari Ikhlaq Madni on the importance of donating eyes to blind people.
Dr Mazhar Qayyum remarked that blindness could be avoided and prevented with the treatment of Diabetic and Black Water Patients whereas, cornea diseases are overcome with grafting treatment.
Dr Mazhar stressed upon the people to take active part in eye donation campaign and make a will of eyes donation which could be removed and be used for restoring the sight of blind people. It is a noble cause. Eyes are removed through operation which is done without causing any damage to the face of dead body. Over 3 lakh people are blind in Pakistan while the numbers of donated eyes by people and donor agencies are meagre which is approximately slightly up to 1,000 figure. However, since the campaign of eye donation is launched he in the capacity of its Chairman, has been able to convince good number of people to donate their eyes which could be used for restoring eye sight of blind people. The campaign is achieving good results and the people are responding positively, Dr Mazhar stated.
