PAF ready to meet existing, future challenges

December 31, 2019

Each year the message of “Happy New Year” reminds us of the Pakistani POWs of 1971. Half of the country was lost and the nation was in a state of shock. The PAF personnel based in Dacca fought gallantly with limited resources, but they were overpowered by the intrigues. It would not be out of context to state: “East Pakistan was lost the day when the runway of Dacca was neutralized.”

The PAF personnel at Dacca were lied to by their adversaries that they would celebrate the New Year’s eve with their dear ones in West Pakistan. Instead, they were forced to stay in POWs camps for more than three years.

Sponsoring terrorism through Mukti Bahini in East Pakistan by Narendra Modi and his comrades was trumpeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Bangladesh parliament on 7 June, 2015. He glorified his active participation in anti-Pakistan activities and creation of Bangladesh in 1971. Even after the disintegration of united Pakistan, India kept pressure on Sheikh Mujib-ur-Rehman by creating “Kadir Bahini”. This terrorist group continued its infiltrations into Bangladesh, leading to assassination of president Zia-ur-Rehman and further disturbances in the reign of president Ershad.

“Shanti Bahini” was another terrorist organization sponsored by India in Bangladesh which supported the Chakma tribe’s unrest with the help of established camps in Indian Tripura state at Amarpur, Sabroom and in the vicinity of Baghban Tilla.

After the 1971 war, PAF had daunting challenges ahead in defence of the motherland. Indians propagate they are undefeatable, could run over PAF within 24 hours and repeat the East Pakistan saga today.

The slogan “Crush Pakistan by infiltrating” got popularity in India and Bollywood movies spread this false rhetorics. Nevertheless, it fizzled out in the skies on 27 Feb, 2019 when the world saw their ego and supremacy shattered and tattered. Suppression and self-praise is a part of Chanakyian theories and Pakistan Air Force has handled them very maturely. The pride of the nation was first seen in action in 1948. The PAF, despite limited resources, successfully dropped logistics supplies to the troops stranded in Kashmir. In April, 1948, a Pakistani Dakota flown by Flight Lieutenant Mukhtar Dogar and Flight Lieutenant Alfred Jagjiwun was attacked by Indian formation over Kashmir. They landed back safe at PAF base Chaklala (Nur Khan) with a wounded Jagjeewun. The Eid day of 21 April, 1959 is witness to another response to the aggressors when Flight Lieutenant Younis shot an Indian Canberra over Gujar Khan.

Six days before the start of the war of 1965 on 1 Sept, 1965, four aircraft infiltrated into Pakistan and all four of them were shot down. Secession of East Pakistan was again started with a flag operation of kidnapping Indian Fokker Ganga to Lahore in early 1971. The Indian hegemony was evident after the Pokhran nuclear tests in 1974 but it could not afford an open attack on Pakistan due to alert and agile PAF. On 10 Sept, 1976 a hijacking ploy of Indian flight IC-491 to Lahore was dealt maturely by Pakistan. Hijackers were overpowered by Pakistani commandos and all 66 passengers were returned safely to India. The hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC-405 in July, 1984 was again a false flag operation to blame Pakistan. The operation was handled professionally; three individuals were captured by Pakistani commandos. Designs to attack the nuclear installations of Pakistan were thwarted by the alert PAF during 1985. The force had been on alert during the nuclear explosions on 28 May, 1998, Kargil operations of 1999, attack on Indian parliament (Dec 13,2001), Mumbai attacks (Nov, 2008), Dina Nagar police station attack on 15 July, 2015, Terror Boat scandal on 31 Dec, 2015. False hijacking of IC-814 from Kathmandu to New Delhi was again responded well by Pakistan and India had to negotiate for release of passengers at the Kandahar airport. The PAF had a close look at the Pathankot air base attack on 02 Jan, 2016, Uri attack on 18 Sept, 2016, attack on GREF camp on 9 Jan, 2017, drama of Pakistani sponsored attack on Indian bulk carrier on 7 Oct, 2017, Pulwama episode in Feb, 2019. All the years these stunts could not turn into air offensive due to vigilant PAF.

Today, PAF has earned laurels on production and sale of indigenous JF-17 and Mashhak aircraft at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra. On the other hand, Indian manufactured Dhruv helicopters were returned to India by Ecuador due to poor sale support. The sale of Cheetak helicopters to Surinam was also a model of poor contracting and financial and administrative flaws.

Even in military terms, psychological warfare propagates the other side is devoid of ideology, their commanders are incompetent, their elders were wrong in perceptions and they have obsolete weaponry. Anti-Pakistan elements are experts in these tactics. Followers of this psychological impediment have started rewriting the history, especially wars against Pakistan. One does not get surprised when false news of Pakistan and its armed forces are spread by anti-Pakistani lobby in the international media.

Like all previous years, another dawn is knocking the door. Drum beats as usual are loud on our borders. The PAF as usual is ever ready to meet the existing and future challenges and shoot down any Abhi Nandan daring to cross the borders. Nation should not get influenced by the propaganda and psychological warfare of our enemies. Happy New Year Pakistan. The PAF is always alert with the pledge: “We acknowledge the supreme sacrifices of our ancestors as a debt to be repaid in deeds of glory”.
