PESHAWAR: Four persons, including three girls were killed and 14 others injured in rain-related incidents in the provincial metropolis and other parts of the province.
As per the Rescue 1122 report, a six-year-old girl Sana and Abdul Manan, 24, were killed in the rain-related incidents in the city and 14 others were injured, including five children.
Rescue 1122 spokesman, Bilal Ahmad Faizi, said that 16 injured persons were shifted by the rescue teams to the Lady Reading Hospital from various parts of the city. They were injured in various incidents related to rain which included collapse of roofs, walls and trees falls.
He said that two of the injured succumbed to his injuries, while the condition of 14 injured persons was stable.
The injured persons are Abdullah Jan, Sherzada, Liaqat, Khanzeb, Nasir Iqbal, Shakil, Shoaib, Muzzamil, Saqib, Malaika, Bakhtawar, Jalwa, Fazal Manan and Umar.
Meanwhile, two minor girls were killed and three others sustained injuries when the veranda of a house caved in during a torrential rain in Damtal Samarbagh in Lower Dir district.
Eyewitnesses said the children were playing in a joint family home when the veranda collapsed under heavy rain in Damtal Samarbagh. Resultantly, Sumaira and Yusra aged between five to nine years were killed on the spot while Naila, Shahab and Afsara were wounded.
Following the incident, the locals rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation. All the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Timergara where their condition was stated to be precarious.
Almost all roads in the Peshawar city and scattered places became ponds when light rain-thunder shower hit the provincial metropolis like some other places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Peshawar, where the weather remained partly cloudy, hot and humid, received 15 millimeter rain in the evening after which all main roads were inundated by rainwater, causing inconvenience to the motorists and pedestrians.
According the Met Department, the rain-thunder shower also occurred in isolated parts of the province. Cheral received 30mm rain, while in Kohat 26 downpour was recorded, Risalpur got 7mm rian, Dir 2 mm, Pattan received just 1mm rain and only light and untraceable shower hit Saidu Sharif
Mainly partly cloudy, hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the region during the next twenty-four hours.
However thunder rain is expected in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Hangu, at isolated places at Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and upper Fata, Abbottabad, Battagram, Mansehra, Kohistan Torghar, Mardan, Swabi, Swat, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Chitral, Shangla, Buner, during next 24 hours.
