LAHORE: The faculty and staff members of the Government College University (GCU) celebrated the Christmas with the university’s minority community at a colorful ceremony at the Bukhari Auditorium here on Thursday.
The stage was especially decorated in a traditional style with lights, balloons, flowers, flags and a Christmas tree. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi, Registrar Saboor Ahmed Khan and Prof Dr Sultan Shah cut the Christmas cake with the university’s Christian staff, students and faculty members.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi said: “We should not only accept the minorities, but also celebrate them.” He added that GCU had always stood out for promoting tolerance and religious harmony.
“If we want peace, we must promote tolerance in society towards the beliefs, faith, race, religion and ideas of other people,” he said. Dr Peter John from the university’s Chemistry Department said the Christmas was a time of delight, sharing the joys and sufferings of others, acceptance, forgiveness, reconciliation, celebrations and promoting love and peace. He said in every religion, peoples’ rights had a preference over other rights.
Earlier, GCU minority staff members expressed gratitude to the vice chancellor and other guests for celebrating Christmas with them.
They said Christmas gave the message of peace and love to all humanity. ceremony: To celebrate the forthcoming Christmas festival of Christian community, Albayrak Waste Management arranged a colorful Christmas event at St John Boys High School here on Thursday.
The school administration welcomed Albayrak officials, sanitary workers and Caritas Pakistan representatives with flower garlands. The event was started with singing performances of the sanitary workers. The students wore colorful costumes and presented a tableau, highlighting the Christian religious traditions. The entrance of the school was also decorated which served as a major attraction of the event.
A cake cutting ceremony was arranged in which a large number of Albayrak workers and the students participated. The principal of the school prayed for the country’s peace and harmony. She also lauded the hard work of Albayrak sanitary staff in maintaining cleanliness in Lahore.
