A man was gunned down by robbers on Wednesday as he tried to protect his son during a robbery bid in the Shah Faisal Colony area. One of the robbers was also arrested in an injured state.

Noor Nabi, 55, was shot dead within the limits of the Shah Faisal Colony police station. The incident took place in the morning at around 9:30am at a scrap shop in Cantt Bazaar. Shah Faisal Colony Station House Officer (SHO) Sikander said it was Wednesday morning when Noor Nabi, who ran a scrap shop, was sitting at some distance from his shop and his son Alam was inside the shop when two armed bandits arrived there to rob it.

As Nabi saw the robbers coming, he shouted to inform his son upon which one of the robbers opened fire on the father, killing him. As the robbers attempted to escape after the firing, Alam was able to overpower one of them who was later severely thrashed by an angry crowd that gathered there after hearing the gunshots. The other robber managed to escape on a motorcycle.

The captured robber was later identified as Azam Hanif. The crowd hit him with iron rods and beat him black and blue before police reached the scene and arrested him. The SHO Sikander said the father was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead. The deceased had received two bullet wounds in his head and upper torso that caused his death.

Police also recovered stolen items and seized a pistol from the possession of the suspect who has a criminal record as he was earlier arrested by the Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Shah Faisal Colony and other police of Karachi for criminal offences, including dacoities, but was released on bail. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
