Govt put on notice for rising number of beggars, addicts

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has issued notices to the federal and provincial government authorities in a writ petition filed against the increasing numbers of beggars and drug addicts in the provincial capital and other cities.

A resident of Peshawar, in the petition, has moved PHC against the increasing numbers of beggars and addicts of heroin and ice in the provincial capital.

The petitioner asked the court to direct the government to rehabilitate the addicts and beggars and implement the laws in this regard.

The court issued notices to the federal and provincial government departments to submit comments on the next hearing.

Meanwhile, another petitioner has moved the PHC against the recent legislation by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and termed the amendments as unnecessary.

The petitioner Mohammad Farooq Afridi demanded of the court to direct the government to withdraw the legislation.The petitioner

stated that the KP Assembly has passed the KP Code of Civil Procedure (Amendment) Act 2019 by bringing radical changes to the Civil Procedure. The petitioner added that the new law would increase the burden of cases on the court.
