Al-Khidmat Foundation awards scholarship to 605 orphans

The Al-Khidmat Foundation provided scholarships to 605 orphan students during the current year pushing the total number of students supported under the Al-Falah Scholarship Scheme to 3,872, which cost Rs240 million.

This was stated by speakers at the annual convention of Al-Khidmat Alfalah Scholarship Scheme here on Sunday. The function was presided over by the central president of the foundation Mian Abdul Shakoor. A social worker based in the US Shakoor Alam was the chief guest on the occasion.

The ceremony was also addressed by the provincial president of the foundation Khalid Waqas Chamkani, national director of Aghosh Homes, Mohammad Shakir Siddique, general secretary Jamaat-e-Islami Abdul Wasi and others.

The speakers said the Al-Khidmat Foundation has been providing scholarships to deserving students purely on merit for the last two decades irrespective of caste, creed, ethnicity and religion.

The process was started in 1998 from the Gujrat district and currently, it has been extended to the entire country. The students are given scholarship for higher studies. They have been extended support to pursue medical, engineering, BS and master’s level studies. They said the students supported this year included 443 male and 162 female students. Shakoor Alam stressed the need for joint efforts to steer the country through current challenges. The students who excelled during the past year in studies were given away shield and prizes on the occasion.
