SUKKUR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sukkur has completed a corruption probe of Rs. 60 million in the Education Department, Kashmore.

The NAB Sukkur has conclusively investigated Rs60 million worth of suspected corruption in the education department and accused 23 officials of education and district accounts departments for embezzling the salaries of non existent people. The NAB officials allege the suspected officials through a fraudulent recruitment and selection process enrolled them into the education department. Furthermore using easily available NICs copies they opened banks accounts and withdrew salaries amounting to Rs60 million over a certain period of time. The most interesting part is that none of the persons from whose accounts the money was withdrawn existed physically.

At this point we do not know how long the fraudulent practice was going on and how many people were involved in the plot. The NAB strongly suspects the involvement of district accounts officers, Abdul Aziz Bullo, Adnan Kazi, Himath Ali, Sarfaraz Ghanghro, and Muhammad Hassan Chachar in the mega scandal. The NAB has submitted its report in the court for registering a reference against them. The court accepting the application has summoned the accused for trial on Dec 19.

Meanwhile, NAB has sought details of expenses in various development projects in Hala, Rohri divisions and Moro as part of their initial procedural investigations. Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Sukkur has sent notices to chief engineer Sukkur Barrage and others for investigation into suspected corruption of millions of rupees in the maintenance projects of the barrage.

The Anti-Corruption Sukkur sent notices to executive chief engineer, Mukhtar Abro, engineer Irshad Memon, XEN Tariq Kehar and others for alleged corruption in different maintenance works of Sukkur Barrage including pitching stones and other maintenance works. The suspected officers have been summoned to appear in court on December 4 (today) along with relevant records.
