IG orders warning letters to DSPs

LAHORE:The inspector general of police, Punjab, has directed the additional IG IAB to issue warning letters to the DSPs who are not taking interest in addressing public complaints and said if they did not improve their performance after warning letters, they had no right to remain on the field postings.

The IG also directed the officers concerned to make every possible effort for addressing the complaints received at 8787 IGP complaint centre. He said action must be taken against the officers and officials found responsible for the delay in FIR registration. He also directed the officers to ensure follow-up of the complaints received at 8787 through calls, SMSs, emails and by post.

The IG was informed that during the current year, IAB made total 1,097 inquiries out of them 855 were complete and 242 were under process. After the inquiries, punishment was recommended for 166 officials and officers. The IG was informed that teams of IAB inspected 862 police offices, police stations, Khidmat Markazs, model police stations and other offices. Taking action on the complaints by citizens, the SP complaints registered 5,106 FIRs.

About the last month’s report, Chiniot DPO said the district police arrested 302 persons, including 132 proclaimed offenders, seized illegal arms and drugs from them. Four persons were arrested for sheltering the proclaimed offenders (POs). Likewise, 48 cases were registered against drugs dealers. The DPO said more than 12 kilo chars and 937 litre alcohol were seized. Thirteen pistols, 10 guns, four rifles and one revolver were also seized.Rescue 1122: Punjab Emergency Services/Rescue 1122 provided timely emergency care to 96,287 victims across Punjab while responding to 96,265 emergencies during the month of November. The Rescue 1122 chief information officer said the trend of increasing number of road crashes had become a leading cause of deaths, serious injuries and disability. She said the experts said around 50 per cent road accidents involving motorcycles could be prevented by adopting some basic safety measures, including proper use of rear-view mirrors, wearing safety helmet, driving bikes in extreme left lane with maximum speed limit of 50km/h in the urban areas.

Police seized four pistols, 790 gram charas, 110 gram heroin and 144 bottles of liquor. Thirty-three proclaimed offenders and court absconders were also held. Police arrested 39 persons for violating the laws on kite flying, wheelie, prices, loudspeaker use and renting premises.

smoky vehicles: The city traffic police took action against 51,312 smoke-emitting vehicles to control smog in the City.

The action was taken in collaboration with nine teams of Environment Protection Department. The chief traffic officer said the traffic police were also creating awareness among people about smog. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the traffic police said the education unit of the police delivered awareness lectures in over 300 schools and colleges in November.
