751 graduates get awards

LAHORE:Around 751 Baccalaureate (Hons) students graduated in various disciplines from Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) during a ceremony attended by dignitaries, FCCU faculty, staff, and graduates’ parents recently.

According to a press release, former Finance Minister and Chairperson Formanites Alumni Association Shaukat Tarin was the chief guest on the occasion, while Iftikhar Shirazi from Atlas Honda Group was the guest of honour.

The Baccalaureate (Hons) valedictory speech was given by Ms Nimra Khurram who graduated with a CGPA of 3.974.

Around 21 medals were awarded to students for achievements in their respective disciplines in 24 Baccalaureate (Hons) programmes, 25 Certificates of Distinction were awarded to students scoring high CGPAs while seven students were awarded Roll of Honor Co-curricular Awards and 18 students were presented Outstanding Student Awards in their respective departments and faculties.

In his commencement address, FCCU Rector Dr James A Tebbe encouraged the graduates to never give up trying and believing in themselves. He congratulated the graduating class of 2019 and said they were now a part of a great tradition of thousands of graduates that FCCU had educated since its inception. Dr Tebbe also said FCCU had been providing quality education to young men and women and that the students must give back to the society.

In his address to the graduating class of 2019, Mr Tarin advised them to learn to apply the valuable knowledge they have acquired at FCCU to solve complex problems that our world faces today in a socially responsible way. He asked them to consider that with the privilege of education comes responsibility to serve society and above all, to work towards the betterment of our great nation Pakistan. He asked them to remember; to tackle difficult problems they need to ask difficult questions and address them with focus and determination. He said, no matter what obstacles the graduates face in their future, they may be optimistic and persistent in all that they do. As the Chairperson of the Formanites Alumni Association, he welcomed the new graduates to become an active part of the Alumni Association for the betterment of FCCU.

The degrees and medals were presented to students by Rector Dr James Tebbe, Shaukat Tarin, Iftikhar Shirazi, Dean of Education and Head of Academic Advising Ms Cheryl Burke, Dean of Postgraduate Studies Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik, Dean of Natural Sciences Dr Dildar Ahmed, Dean of Social Sciences Dr Sikandar Hayat Khan, Dean of IT and Mathematics Dr Ahmad Mahmood Qureshi, and Dean of Management, Business & Commerce Dr Rao Raza Hashim. Registrar Dr Hamid Saeed, Additional Registrar Dr Sufian Aslam and Vice Rector Intermediate Dr Ivan Suneel were also present on the occasion.

Dr Ivan Suneel was also awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award while Ms Cheryl Burke was awarded the Outstanding Customer Service Award (Administrative). IT Support Engineer Shahid Gill and Student Dealing Supervisor Naeem Gulzar were awarded Outstanding Customer Service Awards (Non-Administrative).
