The City District Government, Rawalpindi, has launched an 'E-Khidmat Markaz' which is integrated to provide several government services under one roof.
People could resolve matters relating to computerised national identity cards, excise and taxation, route permits, domiciles, revenue matters, death certificates, marriage certificates, birth certificates, divorced certificates, vehicle licences and utility bill issues under one roof.
On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the 'E-Khidmat Markaz' is bound to resolve all genuine matters of public in eight days. The Punjab chief minister will directly monitor the 'E-Khidmat Markaz' in Rawalpindi.
The provincial government has planned to launch this facility in 11 big cities of Punjab, including 2 centres in Lahore, 1 in Gujranwala, 1 in Multan, 1 in Sahiwal, 1 in Faisalabad, 1 in Sialkot, 1 in Bahawalpur, 1 in Wazirabad, 1 in Sargodha, 1 in Gujrat and 1 in Rawalpindi.
E-Khidmat Markaz (Rawalpindi) Manager In-Charge Iftikhar Ali told ‘The News’ that the system has been started first in Rawalpindi. The system would be started in other cities of Punjab soon, he claimed. He said that public could resolve their issues at the markaz under one roof. “We will resolve all genuine issues of public within 8 days,” he claimed.
He said that once the issue is resolved they will send an SMS to the client to inform him or her about it. "We are opening a branch of National Bank of Pakistan so that people could submit government fee," he said. He claimed that it would be a corruption-free department where public could get resolved their genuine issues without paying even a single penny as bribe. But public should wait for their turn, he said. He said that around 300 to 500 people are visiting the markaz every day to resolve their genuine issues. A large number of people are not aware of this facility and facing difficulties as per routine. People should come to the 'E-Khidmat Markaz' located at the Potohar Town Building, he said.
The Punjab government has centralised all organisations to curb corruption, he said.
The staff of the 'E-Khidmat Markaz' will guide people on every details like all required documents for any specific service, fee, payment procedure and timings.
The facilitation centre will be meant to integrate several government services, including issuance of birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate, divorce certificate, character certificate, vehicle registration, token tax collection, vehicle ownership transfer, 'fard' of land, learning driving licence, traffic fine collection, domicile, issuance of CNIC, Nadra E-Sahulat and route permits.
To make the process further hassle free, an SMS will be sent to the citizens on their numbers to inform them about the status of their application. It would reduce corruption in government departments and discourage agents and clerks that swindle people by taking heavy money from them by assuring them to fulfil their different government tasks in less time.
Talking to ‘The News,’ people belonging to different walks of life appreciated the 'E-Khidmat Markaz' facility where all issues are being resolved in the shortest possible time.
Nazish Baloch, who came to the markaz along with her father, said that the ‘tout mafia’ demanded Rs5,500 for making her domicile. "We could not pay this amount. Someone informed us about the 'E-Khidmat Markaz' from where I have gotten my domicile by paying a fee of Rs300," she said.
Yasir Mehmood Shaikh, a visitor to the 'E-Khidmat Markaz', said that it is a revolutionary step by the Punjab government where public could get resolved all government department matters under one roof. "The concerned staff informed me through an SMS that my CNIC has been made", he said.
