Rangers arrest extortionist couple

Rangers personnel have arrested an couple from Lyari who used to extort money from traders by threatening them.
According to the spokesman for the paramilitary force, a complaint was received at the Rangers Special Task Cell about extortionists from Lyari demanding Rs500,000 from a local trader.
The personnel to trap the extortionists negotiated with the callers ad asked them to collect the money at a specific location.
The personnel reached the designated location and waited for the extortionists to show up. A woman arrived and was taken into custody. During interrogation she confessed to having extorted money from at least three different traders in the past and being an accomplice of notorious extortionist Imran alias Kawwa.
She also led the Rangers to her husband, who used to help her extort money from traders. He was also arrested and interrogation is under way.

Five caught in raids
The Rangers personnel also carried out targeted raids in Noorani Basti and Ittehad Town areas and took into custody five criminals, including extortionists affiliated with the Lyari gang war. Weapons and hand grenades were also recovered from the suspects.

Gang of robbers
Meanwhile, the personnel of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sindh Police arrested four members of a gang of robbers, which also included two young girls, during a raid in Korangi.
According to SIU incharge SSP Farooq Awan, said a few days before Eid, a complaint was received from Captain Habib of Pakistan Navy who shared that he had gone to a private restaurant within the remit of Artillery Maidan police station.
The captain had said that while he was in the restaurant armed men and women had held him and his family hostage at gun point and had asked him to go to North Nazimabad where he withdrew an amount of Rs50,000 from a bank via his ATM card before being released.
SSP Awan said a team was formed to look into the culprits and after the investigation was completed, SIU officials targeted a location in Korangi area where they arrested four suspects, Muhammad Mustafa, Muhammad Hassan, Sadia Noor and Uzma Rafiq.
He said that during interrogation the suspects confessed about robbing Captain Habib. Two pistols with bullets were also recovered from their possession.
