Efforts afoot to implement Sindh education plan

All 29 districts of the province are preparing ‘District Education Plans’ (DEP) for the smooth implementation of the Sindh Education Sector Plan (SESP) 2014-2018, an official of the Reform Support Unit (RSU) told to The News on Monday.The Local Education Group (LEG) attended a meeting at the RSU to devise strategies, which was chaired by the chief RSU programme manager, Faisal Ahmed Uqaili.
The programme manager of the SESP, Khalid Hussain Mahar, said in the meeting that a joint education sector review had been held in February 2015 to access progress on implementation of the SESP. He said 550 schools were selected for the ‘Early Childhood Education’ classes while the ‘Internal Audit Unit’ had been established in new financial management cadre.
He also told that the Teachers’ Education Policy was also in procedure and initiatives were being taken under primary, elementary, secondary and higher secondary level. While sharing the DEP of Karachi Central District and Tando Allahyar, he claimed that the DEP was the first ever plan in the history of Sindh, prepared by districts themselves.According to him, so far, 17 districts had submitted their draft plans.“All DEPs are expected to be ready by September-October 2015.” It was also told that Urdu and Sindhi translations of the SESP would be disseminated among the district officials.
