PESHAWAR: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which used to observe July 5 as black bay, could not arrange any noticeable function in the provincial capital to mark the day when the elected government of the party founding-chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was overthrown and martial law imposed by military ruler General Ziaul Haq.
“The provincial set-up of the party had not given any call to arrange a function in connection with the day and the scorching heat forced us to observe the day in a simple manner,” said, Zulfiqar Afghani, district president of the PPP.
He said a small function was arranged at the district office wherein the Zia’s martial law was strongly condemned and rich tributes were paid to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the party leaders and workers who suffered lashes and prisons during the Zia’s dictatorial rule, he said. Zulfiqar Afghani said that they expressed full confidence in the leaders of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and hoped that the party would rise again under his leadership.
