LAHORE: Following the Higher Education Commission’s direction to halt some MPhil and PhD programmes, Punjab University has vowed to make PhD and M Phil programmes of the university according to the national and international standards.
In a press release, a Punjab University spokesperson quoting Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad said no admission would be made in the programmes which did not meet the Higher Education Commission criteria.
Sources said the Higher Education Commission had directed the Punjab University administration to immediately stop its MPhil and PhD programmes offered by the university’s Gender Studies Department and College of Art & Design (CAD) while such programmes in other departments where more admissions were made than the required number should also be reviewed to clear the backlog before the fresh admissions.
