The Punjab government has given assurance to the Punjab University’s teachers that their housing society land would not be used for Metro Orange Line Train Project as some alternative piece of land is being acquired for the purpose.
According to a press release, PU Academic Staff Association (PUASA) leaders informed the teachers about the government’s assurance in a meeting held at New Campus on Tuesday. PUASA president Dr Hassan Mobeen Aalam chaired the meeting while secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, vice president Dr Aabid Hussain Ch, housing society president Dr Shahid Kamal and a large number of teachers and employees were present in the meeting.
Dr Mahboob briefed the general body about the ASA delegation’s meeting with Lahore Transport Authority (LTA) Chairman Khawaja Hassan Ahmed, LDA Director General Ahad Cheema, MD Nespak, MPA Saiful Malook Khokhar and others. He said LDA and the Punjab government gave their unanimous commitment that they would not use PU land as any option for the train project.
On the occasion, Khawaja Hassan’s statement recorded for a private television channel after the meeting was screened for the teachers’ satisfaction. The teachers’ community showed confidence in the leadership of ASA and demanded expediting of work on Town-II, besides purchasing a new piece of land for young teachers and employees.
ASA leaders thanked the teachers’ community for their all out support and praised Khawaja Hassan and other members of the government committee.
