The subscriber identity module (SIM) provides not only privacy to a user’s identity but identity verification as well. Since the majority of people in our country have mobile phones, they can be encouraged to cast their votes using their handsets. Perhaps an SMS is enough to cast a vote. This is called the mobile phone voting system.
E-voting is used in many developed countries including India. This could also help improve the response rate to elections. Since most SIMs have already been biometrically verified there would be no need to make more verifications. If e-voting is promoted then things will improve – both in terms of saving revenue and precious lives.
