BARA: Special Persons Organisation has asked the government to set up a skill centre, issue them monthly stipends and increase job quota for disabled people in government departments.
Speaking at a press conference at the Bara Press Club on Thursday, the organisation president, Abdullah, general secretary Noor Shaid and others said that the disabled people had been living a miserable life in tribal districts.
“Despite promises with special persons of the tribal district, the government has not fulfilled any promise so far,” Abdullah said, adding that the government had already failed to provide facilities to special persons.
Noor Shaid said the government should establish skill centres in Khyber district for disabled people to earn livelihood for their children.
He said that according to the 1973 Constitution, the government had allotted 2 percent quota for special persons in jobs but no special person was recruited in Khyber yet.
“We demand an increase in the quota from two percent to five percent as the numbers of special persons are increasing day by day,” he said.
He said the government should establish skill centres in each tehsil of Khyber district whereas the disabled persons learn skills to earn livelihood.
The president added that the government should announce monthly stipends for them as well.
