MARDAN: The police registered cases against more than 68 former nazims, including former district nazim, for verifying documents of foreigners for getting Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs), police sources said.
Sources said that after a meeting of Apex Committee Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the police were asked to take action against former nazim, naib nazim, councillors and other people who verified documents of non-national for getting CNICs from National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in Mardan.
The source said that the City Police Station registered cases against 31 people, including former district nazim and the Awami National Party candidate for the district mayor post Himayatullah Mayar, former naib nazm and district councilor-elect Mohammad Aqil and
former naib nazim Sultan Mahmood.
The sources said that cases were registered against 11 persons at the Chura Police Station and 24 former elected nazims at the Takhatbhai Police Station, cases against two persons were registered at the Katlang Police Station.
The sources said that these persons were accused of verifying documents of non-national males and females for getting Computerised National Identity Cards in Mardan. The police registered cases against these persons under sections 420, 419, 468, 471, 109 of Pakistan penal code (PPC) and National Database and Registration Authority act 2000.
