The Sindh government has enhanced its capability to collect revenues as during the current financial year so far, it has collected nine per cent more taxes compared to the revenue collection of the same period of the last fiscal year.

The adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on information and law, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, said this in a statement issued on Wednesday. He claimed that the performance of the Sindh government regarding tax collections had been far better than the federal government, which had been facing a shortfall of Rs318 billion on this account in the current financial year.

Wahab said ministers associated with the present federal government should avoid unduly criticising the performance and conduct of the Sindh government and better focus on improving the performance of their own government, the efficiency and output of which had been declining with each passing day.

The information adviser maintained that the performance of the Sindh government had shown well that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) ruling in the province could resolve economic issues of the entire country, which had aggravated due to the inefficiency of the present rulers in the Centre.

He added that the present rulers had created unbearable miseries for the public by causing unprecedented hike in the prices of the commodities of essential use and petroleum products.

Wahab said the federal government should not adopt an apologetic viewpoint on the issue of the 18th constitutional amendment as the amendment had resulted in major benefits for the federating units in the country, especially Sindh which had initiated a number of initiatives for public welfare after the amendment.

He said the Sindh government had been able to massively upgrade the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Karachi and made it the biggest heart hospital of Asia on the basis of the resources and assets it had received following the passage of the 18th amendment.

The NICVD had so far treated 400,000 Pakistanis free of charge which was a record performance, Wahab said.

He said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in the previous day had inaugurated the new complex of the NICVD in Larkana, which was equipped with latest technology and equipment to provide free treatment to the people of Larkana for heart-related diseases.

Bhutto eulogised

Wahab also praised the services of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for the country who, he said, had laid down his life for the country and that was the reason he was immensely loved by the people of Pakistan.

On the occasion of the 40th death anniversary of Bhutto, which will be observed on Thursday (today), the information adviser said the legacy of Bhutto continued to hold exceptional place in the hearts of millions of Pakistanis.
