Road safety messages on buses: Distractions for drivers are significant contributors to road accidents both on highways and motorways. National Highways and Motorway Police, Central Zone, has launched a camping to prevent road accidents and pasted road safety messages on public service vehicles. The activity of highlighting road safety messages will help road users in understanding the road safety issues, said DIG Ahmad Arslan Malik while launching the drive titled “Road Safety on Wheel” in collaboration with two bus service companies at Bau Sabu, Lahore. SSP Masroor Alam Kolachi, SSP Zafar Iqbal, CEOs of the two bus service companies, other transport owners, lawyers, traders, educationists, students, member of civil society also attended the event.

DIG Central Zone Ahmad Arslan Malik said the messages displayed on the public service vehicles would grab the attention of road users to educate them on the road safety. Motorway Police had always taken revolutionary and innovative steps to create road safety awareness among the road users. Pasting road safety messages on the buses of the country’s leading bus service companies will contribute greatly to disseminating road safety messages to the public at large, he said. The DIG said the traditional outdoor signboards could not serve the essence of road safety due to certain reasons especially while moving at the speed of 100 kilometre per hour. Due to dense traffic movement, hazards of slow-moving vehicles, populated areas and other road conditions, the drivers could not pay attention to the signboards for more than a few seconds. Keeping in view the alarming increase in road accidents, effective methods to create road safety awareness among the public were the need of the hour, he said. DIG Ahmad Arlsan Malik said other categories of vehicles would also be made part of the road safety campaign soon.
