A tragic incident

March 19, 2019

Asad Munir’s suicide was an unfortunate incident. Those who are in power must look into this serious incident. NAB’s way of dealing with people accused of a financial crime is unjust. Previously, it got hold of a former CM and put him in prison. After months of detention, his name was cleared. Is this some kind of joke? Since we already have regular courts, we don’t even need NAB.

NAB was formed under a dictator’s regime and its only purpose was to help reinforce an authoritarian government. The architect of this institution is sitting far away from the clutches of NAB which has failed to nab him for the past so many years. Selective justice will harm the country to unimaginable depths. Let regular courts do their job as per the constitution of the country to ensure the smooth functioning of the state.

This is not the first time that NAB’s highhanded manner – as exposed by the suicide letter of Brig (r) Asad Munir – has come to light. In the year 2000, a university professor was accused of committing financial irregularities and was investigated by the FIA and NAB for many years. He was under investigations for acquiring a big house in a posh area, despite the fact that the CDA record had revealed that he was living in a house inherited from his father.

The professor pleaded that he had no powers to commit any corruption, but his plea fells on deaf ears. These are the incidents that are reported, we don’t know the total number of people who have been harassed.
