Transportation woes

March 15, 2019

The government promised an easy, shorter and sophisticated access to the market to farmers. Had the government delivered on its promise, it would have increased the national annual income by two. A broken transportation system causes a great deal of losses to rural farmers. For example, peanut growers in Dera Bukshian and adjacent areas are unable to bring their produce to the market because of broken roads. If it rains, it becomes increasingly difficult to travel by the road.

Peanuts that are grown in Dera Bukshian are famous for their taste. The cost of their production is less and they have the potential to dominate both national and international markets. Because of the poor level of infrastructure, peanut growers are unable to sell their product at good prices. The authorities must pay attention to the issue and improve infrastructure in Dera Bukshian.
